By now it’s no secret that bread is not the healthiest thing around. Aside from gluten intolerances becoming more and more abundant, bread is full of sugar and all kinds of other terrible things. If you grind your own wheat berrys, then the wheat is actually good for you. If you’re buying wheat flour in the store and baking your own bread, that’s great. But it’s still not “healthy” wheat. I could do a whole blog on why that it is. But I digress. The moral of the story is bread is bad!
For many of us, this limits our lunch’s options. Everyone loves a sandwich!!! That’s were lettuce wraps come in. I’m convinced you can take most traditional sandwiches and substitute the bread for lettuce. But there are some that are BETTER in lettuce than in bread.
Here’s a list of my favorites, and a couple I want to try. I prefer to use living lettuce for my wraps, which is a type of Boston lettuce. But you can substitute your favorite.
Turkey Bacon Club Wrap
Great sandwich when you have left over turkey! I like to wrap turkey, a slice of bacon, a chunk of avocado, and a little tomato in a piece of Boston lettuce. Simple, low cal, great protein…boom!
Chicken Salad Wrap
I took a picture of mine, but it was so terrible looking I decided to spare you the viewing pleasure. You’re welcome.

- 1/2 avocado smashed
- 2 tsp lemon juice
- 1/4 cup dried cherrys
- 1/4 crushed walnuts
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- dash of salt
- a sprinkle of dill
Smash avocado with a fork and sprinkle with lemon juice. Mix greek yogurt, onion powder and garlic powder and dill. Combine remaining ingredients and spoon into lettuce leaves.
